Co- President
Hailey Philbin
I am Hailey Philbin and I’m a sophomore history (track in American history) and communications major (track in rhetoric and political culture). I’m a twin so I was born prematurely. My family was helped by March of Dimes 20 years ago and I have been trying to do the same for other young families for the past 6 years!
Co-President
Anne Lai
Hi everyone! My name is Anne and I am a sophomore majoring in Neurobiology and Physiology. I am currently on a Pre-Optometry track and hope to someday provide better vision for families and children. I have been a part of March of Dimes since the first semester of my freshmen year. Being a part of March of Dimes has allowed me to learn more about and to raise awareness towards premature births. March of Dimes has also given me opportunities to build my leadership and communication skills and to form close relationships with other members of the organization. I love how everyone shares and works towards the same goal as a team.I cannot wait for all the success we are going to have together this year as a growing organization!
Founder:
Anjani Kumar
Hi there! I'm Anjani and I am a senior graduating with a degrees in Neurobiology and Physiology and Biological Anthropology here at the University of Maryland. I got involved with the March of Dimes due to many transformative experiences I encountered while working as an EMT, and while researching in a March of Dimes funded lab. I became curious about the issue of infant mortality, and its importance as the measure of a health care system. I believe that every person can make a difference, and there is no better way to do so, then to take action. In addition to my role on the council, some of the other commitments I have include: being a member of the March of Dimes National Youth Council (learn more here: http://www.marchofdimes.com/aboutus/49267_66723.asp), working with the CMNS to help students make 4 year plans, performing clinical research at the National Institutes of Health, and volunteering with the ESOL program to teach English to non-native speakers. I enjoy ballroom dance, swimming, and playing badminton. I would like to have a career in biomedical research and medicine. I am looking forward to a very productive and exciting year on the council! I can't
wait to meet all of the new people!
